Background:

He invented the "Griggs-Morikleishi" Autonomous Device. They stole the tech, and sold it to Pentax. But Pentax did not enjoy it for long, as Sandford unleashed his mighty mites by unlocking the safety limits. Nanites ate a Lab and the nearby HQ. A Paradox spirit told Sandford that replicating this incident, or anything like it, and he was toast. Then it deprived him of certain abilities as punishment. He left, and met a VE ship in the Umbra. They tried to steal his tech, and he escaped from the resulting shipwreck in a lifeboat. The lifeboat brought him to a VE base. He lied, and told how a giant spacesquid had eaten the ship. They posted him to another ship, and that's where he was last seen.

He is suspicious and wary. He does not like to help other people much, but is willing to help on his own terms, and if the recipient is a "decent person."

A. The PC's are sent to recruit the "Tradition" Mage responsible for so much havoc.
B. They see the civil war in progress as he fights on.
C. A Hit Mark enhanced team comes after him, and the PC's intervene to protect the "innocent" Mage.
D. A Seer tells them that only a Nanotechnician can cure them of some nasty disease.
